Clarksville Warming Shelters

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- As cold weather approaches again this week, the City of Clarksville is preparing to assist the needy with warming shelters on the coldest days.

According to an e-mail from the Mayor's Office, the New Providence United Methodist Church will have a warming shelter open at their facility from 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, through 9 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 11.

The New Providence UMC is located at 1317 Fort Campbell Blvd.

This is in addition to the assistance that will be provided by community partner organizations, such as The Salvation Army, Room at the Inn, Buffalo Valley and the Community Action Agency.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are only expected to reach a high of 28 degrees Tuesday before dropping to an overnight low of 16 degrees. Wednesday the temperatures will rise again to 26 degrees before dropping to 12 overnight.

Thursday is forecast to see a return to more tolerable temperatures with a high of 34 degrees.

Anyone with questions of offers to volunteer should call Mr. or Mrs. Wheeler at 931-338-0868.

The email also indicates the city will be monitoring shelter capacity during the week.
